Who Uses EPSS?
- Consumer Products Companies: Because of its open design,
EPSS can be used by any company that manufactures packaged products
for retail or commercial sale. Such companies fall across a broad
range of industries, including:
- appliances
- computers and electronics
- cosmetics and health care
- household consumables
- office products
- toys/games
- Packaging Companies: EPSS can also be useful to manufacturers/suppliers
of packaging materials, who are increasingly being required by
their customers to supply environmental information about the
materials they provide. Examples include companies that manufacture/supply:
- boxes
- labels
- laminated packaging materials
- paper and paperboard
- plastic containers, film, bags, resin
- shrinkwrap
- other shipping containers
- Company Personnel: Within a company, EPSS is typically used
by the following personnel:
- environmental managers (determine environmental characteristics
of products, assess impact of proposed/actual packaging restrictions,
document improvement in environmental performance)
- packaging engineers (record and manage packaging information,
generate packaging specification reports, test impact of different
packaging designs/materials)
- marketing managers (determine whether environmental marketing
claims can be made for products)
